HOW IT WORKS

Are You A Parent Or Carer With A Concern About Your Child?

School Backpack

REFERRALS

I take referrals directly from parents and carers who have a concern about their child. These concerns might relate to a whole range of things, which could include, but is not limited to:

  • Barriers to learning in school

  • Speech, language and communication needs

  • Difficulties with relationships and social interactions

  • Struggles with mental health and emotional well-being

  • Behavioural concerns

  • Physical and/or sensory needs that impact day-to-day life

Following referral to the service, all my work begins with an in-depth consultation (either in-person or online) with you, the parent or carer, and, if appropriate, your child. This will inform the nature of the work that takes place, and enable us to plan appropriate next steps.

These can take place at a number of different levels, and might include:

Consultative

  • Further discussion about your child in order that you can understand their needs more clearly

  • Support in understanding your rights as a parent and what you can reasonably ask of and expect from school

  • Signposting to other relevant services and resources that may be available to you

Direct

  • Assessments that highlight your child’s particular areas of strength and need

  • Using creative methods to elicit and record your child’s views

  • Providing direct therapeutic input and support

School-based

  • Classroom observations

  • Discussion with staff

  • Advice and guidance for staff around strategies to support progress

Systemic

  • Attendance and advocacy at meetings

  • Support with visits to prospective school settings

  • Writing of reports – again these can be tailored to the specific purpose for which they are required
